Simple design has been a trending topic in house designing in the recent years. Some of the reasons fueled this; land scarcity (which makes it more expensive to own a plot of land), higher price for building materials as well as the labors, and technological advances in building materials and building techniques. Now, what are the least you can do to apply a simple design that plays for your house?
First, have a solid and well-thought design. Discuss every aspect that you need with your architect and your family. Decide how many rooms you need and its functions; can some functions be combined into one room? Will your house be a growing house or will you build a house that can accommodate any family expansion (more child, more cars, etc.).
Design should be your primary concern as everything else regarding the construction and the finishing of your dream house will revolve around this. Do not hesitate to spend more time on this part at the beginning rather than taking chance of having it during the construction.
Second, decide what building material and techniques you will use in the construction. Using a instant cement, ready mix concrete, pre-fabricated structure, will enable you to save more time without little or no compromise to the overall structure of your house. One thing that you should remember here: calculate the budget, is it worth the money? Oh, you can also use a pre-owned building components; doors, fences, awning, etc.
Third, pay close attention on the finishing that you choose for your house. Do you want a weather-proof paint for your exterior wall or an exposed style? Do you want a closed and well insulated ceilings or an open frame design? Do you need to have an insulated window with proper decoration or just a simple, plain looking one?
Whatever you choice to apply the simplicity, do remember that functionality should be the key (function over form) and simplicity should not resemble a cheap design. Happy designing!
