It may be daunting at first but easier as you go along. The first step is to plan your website. How many products do you have, are they changing fast, which means you need to update alot. Is your page going to be Dynamic or is it Static (Static if your products are few less than 25 and supply is constant) As an Internet Retailer and web designer I made a simple guide for my clients to read even before starting their site:
Getting Started – http://www.wowcity.net/page.php?content=Getting%20a%20Website
Retailer – http://www.wowcity.net/page.php?content=Retail
Questions to Answer Before Starting – http://www.wowcity.net/framedcontent/checklist.htm
Pretty much this is geared for Dynamic Sites meaning the use of a database to make it easier to manage your products. Payments you can use Paypal for starters, traffic generation is the next step once your site is ready for public release.

for free hosting, try google pages [pages.google.com]or yahoo geocities ,
its sort of free hosting, but you are limited to a subdomain on googlepages & geo has ads on your website – otherwise I would use http://www.interkeys.com/tophosts to get one for a few bucks a month with 500 GIG bandwidth and the rich with features

Hi hope to help you.
First of all to accept payment the easiest way is paypal at paypal.com
They give you a button you paste into your site and when people click it the money goes right into your bank account. We get paid like that all the time and I’ll show you a sample of our page below but onto your next question.
Freeweb sites.
The best one we’ve tried free is at
http://www.freewebs.com You can set one up free and keep it forever free and then pay little fees to get site add ons like forms etc.. if you choose.
The top link below is a way you can earn income. Notice the paypal button. People click that and we earn income.
The second link is a sample of a freewebs free web site
