Bare rooms with no decorative elements or furniture are surely plain and boring. Each room should be given the spirit and the character as designated by the owner. These can be projected through selections of many supporting items and its elements. This is usually done by an interior designer or an architect. However, if you are the kind of person who like to take matters into your hand, here are some points on interior designing;
Select the main tone. Basic tone or color will be your main guide to determine the theme for each room. Any decorative elements or furniture should be matched with the main tone. Matched here should not be understood as applying the same color as it would be monotone and boring. Instead, play with the best color match to provide colors variation to the room, making it more alive.
Play with texture. Each of the elements that you put into a room will have a particular texture. A light, thin, and soft texture of the carpet, glass, metal, and textile will make room feel bigger. On the other way around, a heavy, thick, and rough texture of stones or wood will make the room feel smaller/ narrower.
Shape and Dimension. Match the shape and dimension of each element with the room. You can add elements of different shapes but keep them balance to meet the eyes. Moreover, ensure that the elements are not too big/ too small compared to the overall dimension of the room.
Play with lines. The rules are easy; use horizontal lines to achieve a spacious and wider sense and/or use vertical lines to achieve narrow and/ or tall look. Curved lines or abstract lines will evoke a dynamic and/ or playful sense to a room.
Use other elements. If possible and it suits your taste, explore the use of other elements as well. Plants and/ or water are the usual elements added into a room. The form may vary from a small garden, hanging pots, fish pond, or an aquarium.
