In the modern era, kitchen might be the center of almost everything instead of being a place where you cook or prepare your meals. You can easily find houses that combined their eating spot in the kitchen. It is also not surprising to find TV in a kitchen, in addition to the ‘traditional’ kitchen wares. Having all of these extra function will not be problem as long as you have your kitchen well-designed and well-managed. The end result is of course, to have an efficient kitchen.
One thing to start with is the design. Decide what furniture and kitchen wares you need to have in the kitchen. Mind that we emphasize on the NEED and not on what you WANT. You might WANT a giant stove with four burners and a grill, but if you only have a 3m x 3m area, there won’t be enough space left for others. Having a custom-made kitchen set then would be a proper way to utilize the most from the space provided.
In designing the kitchen, you need to think about the function (or functions) that you would like to have. If you are a single, perhaps you don’t need a sophisticated stove or not even one. A microwave would satisfy you as you bought your meal from outside instead of cooking it. In a small family, a kitchen could be a spot to prepare a light breakfast and eat it while enjoying the newspaper or the morning news. You see, different needs leads to different functions and in the end, different design.
However, to keep the kitchen efficient, you should pay more attention on the storage. This would be storage for your food (cupboard, refrigerator), your cooking utensils (when they are off-duty), and the dishes/ table ware. If you want to put a small kitchen sink because you want your kitchen to stay clean all the time, you also need some drying spots. Again, this is where the custom-designed kitchen set will help you. It can bridge between your expectation and the available room.
So, spend some time listing down the needs, scratch out some design ideas, and go make your dream efficient kitchen a reality!
