If you are looking for the best lighting for your bedroom, the first thing you should have on your to-do list is to list down all activities that you have in the bedroom. Do you like to check on your e-mails and write some talking points for your presentation from bed? Perhaps, reading the newspaper, favorite novel or watching TV or DVD from your bed? All of these activities will require different type of light as well as different color type and light’s intensity.
In relation to this, you also need to measure the dimension of your bedroom and decide which part of the bedroom that you need lighting. Will a single bulb enough to light the bedroom or do you need bedside lamps, lamps for your walk in closet, another in the desk table? Come up with clear description on the activities and the type of lighting that you require for your bedroom.
Once you have decided on the above matters, the next thing will be easy. You only need to decide on the type and design of each light, based on the needs. Then, you can continue with the positioning of each light. You can have a bedside lamp or a main lamp with a dimmer, a switch-operated light for your walk-in closet, etc.
Now, if you’re working on the lighting for your kids’ bedroom, ask them about their requirements as well. However, go over their needs and check once again to make sure that they do need it. We advise that you limit the lighting on your kids’ bedroom so they can focus on resting while they’re in. You can also play with colors, to create the overall mood for their bedroom.
Remember, have a very clear and detailed plan for your lighting needs in your bedroom. This will allow you to speed up the installation process and keeping you in budget. Discuss this with your interior designer, electrician, and your spouse/ kids. Ask your electrician about any technology that you could possibly use on your bedroom lighting; dimmer, auto on-off switch, photo-sensitive sensor, etc.
