Despite its simple look, bamboo is not or should not be taboo to be used in your house. Whether as simple decorating accent or even to construct an entire house, this material offer some benefits compared to other building materials.
Bamboo is known for its high flexibility. When grown, bamboo can withstand even the harsh wind without breaking. Splice into thin sheets, bamboo can also be weaved to make a strong wall screen. Big bamboo poles can me made as main pillars or columns of a house. Bamboo can also be made into a simple pipeline to channel water.
Bamboo is light as well. Light yet flexible, both in its strength and function; bamboo is very popular building materials in most tropical countries when it is grown. Try browsing for; bamboo house or bamboo construction and you will found how these statements are not exaggerating.
With regards to the ‘GO GREEN’ theme nowadays, bamboo is considered to be greener. It is easily grown and could be harvested quickly compared to some type of woods that may take at least 8-10 years before it could be used to make a house. Depending on its type, bamboo can be used within 3-5 years of age. Easy to grown and quick to harvest mean bamboo is more sustainable = greener.
Of course you still can add some more treatment if you are using bamboo. Bamboo carving will add some accent for your decoration piece. You can also add some clear varnishing into the bamboo to brighten up the color and protecting it from outside influences as well. Although could be easily done, we suggest you not to paint the bamboo, as you may loose its natural beauty.
Using bamboo in combination with other material can also be done. Either combined it with natural material, particularly wood, or with concrete, brick-mortar construction. It will add into the uniqueness and the strength of the final construction. You can even use some different types of bamboo in a design, depending on the size, load, and strength.
So, using bamboo in your house or even to make house, is not taboo!
